Rain, thunderstorm likely today

Showers and thunderstorms are expected later this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest rain is expect along and east of I-35, according to the weather service. Areas south of I-70 could see more than an inch of rain, the weather service said.

Thunderstorm chances will continue off-and-on through the week. At this time severe weather is not anticipated, but areas between I-70 and I-44 could see localized flooding, according to the weather service.

Today’s high will be near 67, the weather service said. A south wind will be 7 to 13 mph. There is a 70 percent chance of rain, with a tenth to quarter of an inch of rain possible.

Tonight, the low will be around 53, with showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, the weather service said. The chance of rain is 70 percent with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half-inch.

On Wednesday the chance of rain is 60 percent, according to the weather service. Showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm. The high will reach about 61. New rainfall amounts will be between a tenth and quarter of an inch.

Wednesday night, there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation. The low will be around 46. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are possible.

Thursday, the high will be near 62. There will be a 30 percent chance of rain in the afternoon, the weather service said. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible.

Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 44, according to the weather service.

Friday, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers, with a high near 60, the weather service said.

Friday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers, with a low of 46, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the high will be near 61 and there will be a 30 percent chance of showers. Saturday night, the low will be around 49.

Quadruple homicide on South 36th; suspect’s vehicle found 170 miles away

A suspect in a quadruple homicide overnight in Kansas City, Kan., is thought to be in the Montgomery County, Mo., area, about 170 miles east of Kansas City, according to Kansas City, Kan., police.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is currently searching for the suspect, who is believed to be in that area. The suspect’s vehicle was located this morning on I-70 near Montgomery County, Kansas City, Kan., police said.

Four persons were shot around 11 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the 3000 block of South 36th Street in Kansas City, Kan., police said.

When they arrived officers found three males in their early 30s, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A fourth victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from apparent gunshot wounds.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is looking for Pablo Serrano as a person of interest. Police said he was driving a red 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, Kansas tag 729HED.

The Missouri Highway Patrol warned the public about an “armed and dangerous man” in the vicinity of Montgomery County. The highway patrol said the name of the suspect is Pablo Antonio Serrano Vitorino,

The highway patrol said Serrano Vitorino’s last known location was in the vicinity of the 175-mile marker of I-70 near New Florence, Mo. He was last seen wearing a red and black flannel jacket, blue hooded sweatshirt and possibly blue jeans, according to the highway patrol. His direction of travel is unknown.

The highway patrol said he may be armed with an AK-47, and the public should use extreme caution if they encounter him. The public is asked not to approach or contact this individual, but to call 911 immediately.

According to Wyandotte County Jail records, Pablo Serrano was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail on June 15, 2015, on charges of domestic battery, bodily harm to a family member. He was released the same day on his own recognizance, according to jail records.

The identity of the victims will not be released until there is positive identification and family notification, police said.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is asking anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

KCKCC wins 14th on 20 hits; Cowley series Thursday, Saturday

No late inning heroics were needed Monday as Kansas City Kansas Community College pounded out 20 hits in a 19-6 win over Rockhurst JV.

The win, the Blue Devils’ 14th in 17 starts, sets up one of the biggest series of the Jayhawk Conference season starting Thursday when KCKCC plays at No. 4 ranked Cowley County in Arkansas City at 1 p.m. The two teams then meet again Saturday at KCKCC, again at 1 p.m. Both teams are 3-1 in Jayhawk play, the Blue Devils taking three of four games from No. 14 ranked Johnson County.

Led by Travis Stroup, five Blue Devils combined for 16 hits against Rockhurst. Stroup had two doubles and two triples and drove in four runs while Eli Lovell drove in three runs with a single, double and triple. Ryan Fisher added two singles and a triple and Ty Bradshaw and Albert Woodard two singles and a double.

The Blue Devils also hammered two home runs, one by Chase Redick leading off the game and Levi Froud had a solo shot in the seventh. Colton Kenagy worked the first 2.1 innings, giving up three hits and five runs. Cameron Bednar followed with 3.2 innings, allowing four hits and one run before Ryker Johnson, Gunner Vestal and Elijah Baig each pitched one inning of hitless relief.

Stroup’s first triple came in a 5-run first that also included singles by Woodard, Lovell and Fisher and he and Lovell lashed back-to-back three baggers in the second, Lovell scoring the second run of the inning on Drew Holtgrieve’s single.

Woodard and Stroup each had two-run doubles in a 4-run third that also included singles by Daulton Smith and Bradshaw; Stroup and Bradshaw had doubles and Zach Mahoney singled in a 5-run fifth; and Lovell doubled and Fisher singled in a 2-run eight.
