Ten bills signed into law

Gov. Sam Brownback signed 10 bills on Monday, March 28, including one that lets health insurance companies offer plans for network only coverage.

The bills signed Monday include:

HB 2442: Limits the distribution of confidential information technology security audit information.
HB 2454: Permits health insurers to offer Exclusive Provider Organization insurance plans.
HB 2485: Amends the insurance code to incorporate updated risk-based capital instructions for property and casualty companies and life insurance companies.
HB 2512: Allows qualified students early access to the CPA examination.
HB 2516: Updates the Asbestos Control Act to reduce licensing fees for those who perform asbestos abatement work and who comply with industry and federal standards.
HB 2536: Amends the accounting licensure procedure to clarify the role of the Board of Accountancy and examination requirements.
HB 2567: Reinstates resident tuition and fees for military veterans and dependents.
SB 329: Clarifies the approval process regarding multi-use flex accounts for water rights.
SB 330: Establishes the Kansas conservation reserve enhancement program.
SB 412: Authorizes Water District #1 to use existing easement locations for the purpose of constructing and operating hydropower generation equipment.
The governor has now signed 25 bills into law this session and vetoed one. By law, the Kansas governor has 10 calendar days to sign the bill into law, veto the bill or allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Driver injured when truck overturns in KCK

A driver was injured when a pickup truck overturned Monday evening on southbound K-5 near 12th Street in Kansas City, Kan.

The crash was at 5:56 p.m. March 28. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Chevy S10 truck was southbound on K-5 when it left the roadway to the left, crossing the center median and both northbound lanes before overturning in the east ditch.

The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old man from Leavenworth, Kan., was injured and taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.
