Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist., announced on Dec. 1 he had nominated 29 students to four of the five U.S. service academies for the class entering 2016.
None of the 29 students nominated was from Wyandotte County.
The nominations are to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Naval Academy.
According to Rep. Yoder’s news release, the Third District’s Academy Nomination Board, appointed by Rep. Yoder, conducted interviews with applicants after a review of their applications.
After the nominations are sent to the service academies, the applicants must meet the requirements of each academy to be considered for appointment; the academies make the final decision.
Rep. Yoder will begin accepting applications for the 2017 Academy class on May 1, 2016, according to the news release. The application deadline is Oct. 1, 2016. For more information on the application process or to receive an Academy Nomination Application visit www.yoder.house.gov.
