Victim of fatal shooting identified

Kansas City, Kan., police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at 7:22 p.m. Nov. 23 in the 1100 block of Freeman Avenue.

The victim was Amilcar Alexander Ruiz-Solis, 21, of Kansas City, Kan.

Officers responded to a shots fired call on Nov. 23 and discovered a male inside the residence who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and died at the hospital on Nov. 30 from his injuries, police said.

This incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Casino gets second 90-day extension in southeast Kansas

A second 90-day extension has been granted to Kansas Crossing, a casino manager which is trying to open a casino in the southeast Kansas gaming zone.

Kansas Crossing received an earlier 90-day extension on Aug. 31 because of pending litigation.

Kansas Crossing cited continuing concerns about pending litigation in its request for another extension.

Kansas Lottery Executive Director Terry Presta issued the 90-day extension on Wednesday.
