NAACP branch to meet Jan. 5

The Kansas City, Kan., Branch NAACP will meet Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the Bethany Medical Building, second floor meeting room, 21 N. 12th St., Kansas City, Kan.

The executive meeting will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the general membership meeting at 7 p.m.

All members are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include setting the agenda for 2016.

Crash reported on I-635

A crash happened on a slick I-635 roadway around 8 a.m. Dec. 28 in Kansas City, Kan.

A Ford Explorer slid off I-635 into the ditch in the northbound lanes, north of K-5, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash log.

A Volvo car was northbound on I-635 in the left lane, lost control and struck the Explorer, the report stated.

The driver of the Explorer, a 41-year-old woman from Kansas City, Kan., had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

The driver of the Volvo, a 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, was not injured, the report stated.

Cold weather ahead today

Today’s forecast is a high of 28 with partly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snow will be possible late tonight into Wednesday morning across the area, the weather service said. The accumulation will probably be under a half-inch.

The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with light snow likely mainly after 3 a.m., according to the weather service.

The weather service cautioned that icy roads from yesterday’s snow and ice could lead to hazardous travel conditions today.

A weak storm system will pass across the region early Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

After that, dry but cool conditions will dominate the weather through the late week and the upcoming weekend, according to the weather service.

Wednesday’s high will be near 28, and Wednesday night, the low will be 13, the weather service said.

Thursday, expect a high of 28.

The New Year’s Eve forecast for Thursday night is mostly clear, with a low of 14, according to the weather service.

New Year’s Day will be sunny with a high of 29, the weather service said.
