KCKCC women roll with 16 treys, 103-38; home again Tuesday

Joe McKinstry promised aggressiveness on both ends of the floor in his first year as women’s basketball coach at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Draining 16 three-point goals and forcing 40 turnovers, the Lady Blue Devils lived up to those expectations Saturday with a 103-38 thumping of Sterling College’s JV.

The second win in two days, the Blue Devils are right back in action Tuesday when they play host to Central Methodist JV and then go on the road to North Central Wednesday and North Arkansas Saturday in one of their biggest weeks of the season. Tuesday’s game will tip off about 8 p.m. and will follow a KCKCC-Longview volleyball game at 6 p.m.

Sophomore Sierra Roberts of SM South led the Blue Devils with a career high 31 points including seven three-pointers, hitting 7 of 15 from long range. Janay Jacobs and Erin Anderson each added three treys as the Blue Devils converted 16 of 41 for 39 percent..

Four other Blue Devils were in double figures. Aricca Daye had 18 points including 10-of-14 free throws; Anderson had added 17 points and led in rebounding with 10; Jacobs and Destiny Vincent contributed 11 points each; and Brooklyn Wagler chipped in with eight,

Defensively, Wagler Daye each had five steals, Roberts four and Jacobs and Vincent three each as the Blue Devils finished with 25 steals or more than double their 12 turnovers. In addition to Anderson’s 10 rebounds, Wagler had eight, Jacobs seven and Roberts six.

Two KCK women injured in accident with semi on I-70

Two Kansas City, Kan., women were injured after a brush with a semi truck on I-70 eastbound, west of the 57th Street exit, about 11 a.m. Oct. 31.

The driver of a Mazda lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason, stated a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report.

The Mazda went off the road, the driver over-corrected, came back into traffic, and a semi truck collided with the driver side of the Mazda, the trooper’s report stated.

The Mazda then went into the outside ditch, according to the report.

The driver of the Mazda, a 45-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

A passenger in the Mazda, a 46-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

The driver of the semi, a 59-year-old Raytown, Mo., man, was not injured, according to the report.
