Romero in Emporia State production of ‘Creating Claire’

Courtney Romero of Kansas City, Kan., is part of “Creating Claire,” the second show of Emporia State University’s 2015-16 theater season.

Under the direction of ESU faculty member Theresa Mitchell, “Creating Claire” by Joe DiPietro is the story of a middle-aged natural museum docent, Claire, who comes under fire when her tour-guide patter deviates from the strict scientific beliefs of Victoria, the director of the museum.

As Claire heads down a path that embraces intelligent design, many visitors are attracted to her spiritual slant; it soon leads to legal action in a powerful exploration of what happens when science, faith and politics collide. It also takes a real toll on the lives of her husband and their daughter.

Romero, a junior theatre major, is the costume and makeup crew chief.

Nancy J. Pontius is the lighting designer. Amanda Dura will design the costumes.

“Creating Claire” runs at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 through 21. There will also be 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 21 and 22. All performances will be in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Theatre on the Emporia State University campus. Tickets can be reserved at the Memorial Union box office or by calling 620-341-6378.

Yoder family welcomes new daughter

There’s a new Yoder in the 3rd District.

U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist., and his wife Brooke have announced that they welcomed a new member of their family, Eloise Jane, into the world on Monday morning.

The baby’s name was inspired by two of her great-grandmothers, according to an announcement. She was born at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. The new baby was 21 and ¼ inches long and weighed 7 pounds and 13 ounces.

Both mother and baby are healthy and resting at home in Overland Park. On Wednesday, Rep. Yoder issued this statement:

“Brooke and I could not be happier to announce the addition of Eloise Jane to our family and Caroline is thrilled to be a big sister. We want to thank all of the great health care providers at Shawnee Mission Medical Center who helped deliver her in good health. Our own little slugger is truly a blessing and we were thrilled she was brought into a world where the Royals are World Champions.”

Congressman Yoder and Brooke now have two daughters, Caroline Lucille and Eloise Jane.
