Accidents on I-70 reported

Wet and icy weather over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend resulted in some accidents locally.

According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report, a Dodge Stratus was traveling westbound on I-70 near the Park Drive exit in Kansas City, Kan., at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, when it lost control because of the wet roadway.

The Stratus traveled into the outside ditch and collided with the embankment, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Grandview, Mo., was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated.

Another I-70 accident near the Park Drive exit in Kansas City, Kan., was reported at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.

The trooper’s report stated that a Nissan Altima was westbound on I-70 in the middle lane when the driver lost control. The Altima drove over ice and water on the roadway, the report stated.

The Altima slid off the roadway into the right ditch and struck the guardrail, causing damage to the Nissan and to 30 feet of the guardrail, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Kansas City, Kan., was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.

Rainy start for Monday

After some rain this morning and today, precipitation is not in the forecast for some days.

The National Weather Service said fog will accompany today’s rain, with visibility down to a half-mile in some areas this morning.

The temperature was around 37 degrees this morning, with a high near 40 expected this afternoon, according to the weather service.

The rain is expected to end tonight, and Tuesday’s forecast will be mostly sunny with a high near 41. A west southwest wind will be 10 to 16 mph gusting to 24 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, look for a low of 30, with a west wind of 8 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 41, the weather service said. A northwest wind will be 6 to 11 mph.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 27 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Thursday, expect sunny skies with a high near 46, according to the weather service.

Thursday night, the low will be around 28, the weather service said.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 50, according to the weather service.

Friday night, the low will be around 32, the weather service said.

Saturday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 52, and Saturday night, the low will be near 36, according to the weather service.
