Risen Lamb International Church of the Nazarene, located in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kan., has announced the opening of the Risen Lamb Prayer Room and Retreat Center. On location at their church at 5301 Metropolitan Avenue, the prayer room and retreat center is open to the public for daytime retreats. All individuals or small groups seeking a quiet, sacred space to gather, pray, meditate, journal or read resources about prayer are welcome. The prayer room provides a peaceful space for solitude or can be scheduled in advance for groups of up to eight people. Guests seeking spiritual guidance may schedule a time of spiritual direction with one of the pastoral staff, and groups may inquire about scheduling a member of the pastoral team to lead or speak at a retreat. Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The admission charge is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Special tours are available during the week for groups of 20 or more by calling 913-721-0081. Wyandotte County Museum open
The Wyandotte County Museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. Renaissance Festival continues
The Renaissance Festival will continue Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4 near 126th and State in Bonner Springs. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, each festival day, rain or shine. The event is open weekends only. “Wine, Chocolate and Romance” is the theme of the weekend. Featured are a wedding of the century, grape stomp, a newlywed game and more romantic activities. The wedding of the century will start Saturday at noon on the Joust Track. The couple will then participate in the royal parade at 12:30. The reception will follow at the Queen’s Gate at 12:45 p.m. Additional guests’ tickets can be purchase for $13 for adults and $10 for children. Additional reception tickets can be purchased for $5 each. Final day for registration is 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. Tickets are $20.95 for adults and $11.95 for children 5 to 12. Autumn art show and wine tasting planned

Second Men’s Olympic Qualifying Match planned at Sporting Park
The CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Match is planned at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Sporting Park, near State Avenue and I-435 in Kansas City, Kan. On Thursday night, the U.S. Under 23 Men’s National Team won the first game at Sporting Park over Canada, 3-1.
Also, Cuba defeated Panama on Thursday. On Saturday, Canada will play Panama at 1:30 p.m. at Sporting Park, and the U.S. Under 23 Men’s National Team will face Cuba at Sporting Park at 4 p.m. Saturday. Salmon Wrap Fest scheduled at Boulevard Drive-In

Mayor Mark Holland will be the guest speaker at a luncheon meeting of the Fairfax Industrial Association at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. Mayor’s Listening Tour to be Oct. 13 at Turner High School
Mayor Mark Holland’s Listening Tour next will visit District 6 at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Turner High School, 2211 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kan. Mayor Holland will make remarks, along with commissioners, and then comments of residents will be heard in small discussion groups. The Listening Tour will gather information from residents on their priorities on countywide initiatives. It is based on the scheduled retirement of the sales tax revenue (STAR) bonds in 2017, which can result in the county receiving an additional $12 million a year, according to UG officials. Women’s Chamber to sponsor After-Hours Gathering
The Women’s Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an After-Hours Gathering from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Grinter House, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with networking and light hors d’oeuvres. At 6 p.m., Kelli Poles of ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss will share her journey and personal experience. A silent auction, “Purses with a Purpose,” will be held. This auction features filled handbags, and will benefit the Women’s Chamber’s scholarship fund for nontraditional female college students. Harlem Book Fair coming to KCK
Two community advocacy organizations are joining to bring the Harlem Book Fair to Kansas City, Kan., to promote literacy and cross-cultural dialogue. The Kansas City, Kan., NAACP and El Centro, which are African-American and Hispanic community advocacy organizations, the Harlem Book Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Reardon Civic Center, 5th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. The day-long event will feature nationally acclaimed writers and community-based Kansas City authors and artists in author readings, music, children’s storytelling, and art presentations. Annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration to be Nov. 7
The annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The event is presented by the Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event, from 10 a.m. to noon, will include a special recognition of Vietnam War veterans, on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Groups expected to participate in the event include the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department Drum and Pipe Corps, Piper High School Music in Motion and Salvation Army Music Ensemble. There will be special speakers, veteran resources, commemorative displays, free giveaways and a brunch. Partners and sponsors of the event include the Kansas City, Kan., Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, VFW Post 6401 and auxiliaries, Wyandotte County Museum, Providence Medical Center and Salvation Army Harbor Light Village.
