Victims of I-35 double fatality accident identified

The victims of a double fatality accident Wednesday night on I-35 in the Edgerton, Kan., area, have been identified.

The accident closed I-35 for a few hours.

A 2003 Impala had been southbound on I-35 and went into the median when the driver overcorrected, the trooper’s report stated.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle when it rolled.

The accident was fatal to the driver and to a 6-year-old passenger.

The driver was Ashley Nicole Towner, 25, of Wellsville, Kan. The passenger was Ilana Dawn Towner, 6, of Wellsville.

The trooper’s report stated a booster car seat was in the vehicle but the child was not buckled in.

A cold front is moving through the area, resulting in a drop of about 15 degrees Friday.

On Friday, skies will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 68, according to the weather service. The wind will be from the north at 7 to 10 mph.

Friday night’s forecast is mostly clear with a low of 47, according to the weather service. The north wind at 6 mph will become calm in the evening.

On Saturday, expect sunny skies and a high of 73, the weather service said. A light south wind will become south southwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Saturday night, the low will be around 57 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Sunday’s forecast is sunny and a high of 82, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there will be most clear skies, with a low of 61, according to the weather service.

The forecast for Monday, Columbus Day, is sunny, with a high near 74, the weather service said. Monday night’s forecast is a low of 48.
