Public hearing set on scrap metal regulations

A public hearing on the proposed permanent scrap metal dealer regulations has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 22, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

The hearing will be at Topeka’s Memorial Hall, 120 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, Kan.

Earlier this year, the Kansas Legislature adopted a new law requiring scrap metal dealers operating in Kansas to register with the attorney general’s office. The proposed regulations include details for how the registration program is to be implemented and operated. The regulations were approved on a temporary basis by the State Rules and Regulations Board on Aug. 10.

State law requires a 60-day comment period and a public hearing before the regulations become permanent.

The proposed regulations are available at http://1.usa.gov/1Om2fbO. Members of the public may submit comments on the proposed regulations on the website, by email to [email protected] or by mail to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, 120 SW 10th Ave., 2nd Floor, Topeka, KS 66612.
