Bridge work planned today on U.S. 69

Crews will close the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 69 over the Missouri River from 11 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, for bridge work, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The current U.S. 69 bridge over the Missouri River is being replaced.

A new structure will be constructed in its place and will include multiple lanes and bike-pedestrian access. It will open to traffic in December 2016.

This project is shared by the Kansas Department of Transportation and MoDOT.

Motorists are asked to be alert, obey warning signs and use caution when driving through work zones, according to a MoDOT spokesman. All work is weather dependent.

After a cloudy start, Friday afternoon will be sunny, with a high near 65, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Comfortable temperatures and dry to sunny conditions will persist through the weekend and into early next week, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear with a low of 47, the weather service said. A north wind around 5 mph will become calm in the evening.

On Saturday, it will be mostly clear with a high of 73, the weather service said. Saturday night, there will be a low of 57, and a south wind around 6 mph, according to the weather service.

Sunday, expect sunny skies and a high near 84, the weather service said. Sunday night, temperatures will reach a low of 61.

Monday, Columbus Day, it will be sunny with a high near 74, according to the weather service. On Monday night, it will be clear with a low of 48.
