Car hits van in slow traffic on I-35

Two drivers from Kansas City, Kan., were southbound on I-35, in Merriam, Kan., at 8:44 a.m. Monday, May 11, when one struck the other in slow traffic.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 21-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man driving a Pontiac Bonneville hit the back of a Chevrolet van on I-35 southbound.

The van, which had slowed for traffic, was driven by a 41-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, the report stated.

The driver of the Bonneville was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report. The driver of the van was not injured.

DAR ceremony rescheduled

A Wyandot Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution ceremony for June 13 has been rescheduled, according to an announcement from the chapter.

The Medal of Honor Remembrance Service to honor Civil War recipients will be rescheduled sometime in September, according to the announcement.

Job fair planned this afternoon

The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., is one of the employers who will have a booth at a job fair from 2 to 5 p.m. today, May 12, at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel Crown Center, 2345 McGee St., Kansas City, Mo.

Other employers to be at the event include Bank Midwest, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Kansas City, Commerce Bank, Kansas City Southern, and St. Luke’s Health System.

The event will benefit the Women’s Employment Network, a nonprofit organization that offers job-search training and resources, financial coaching, professional case management and other resources to help women obtain economic independence through sustained employment.

Men and women are welcome to attend Tuesday’s job fair. Admission to the event is free for job seekers and parking will be validated up to three hours. No registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes.
