Light agenda for UG Commission meeting Thursday

The Unified Government Commission is scheduled to meet Thursday, March 5, at City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.

There are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. meetings scheduled.

At the 5 p.m. special session, in the fifth floor conference room of City Hall, there will be a human resources presentation on customer service. Immediately after the 5 p.m. meeting there will be a closed session in the ninth floor conference room on property acquisition, according to the meeting announcement.

At 7 p.m., a UG Commission meeting is scheduled in the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall.

The agenda for the 7 p.m. meeting includes a change in the meeting schedule for some future meetings; a discussion on whether speakers during public hearings have to give their home addresses; a traffic safety award; and a legislative update.

Shooting victim identified

The victim of a shooting that was discovered Wednesday at 63rd and Parallel Parkway has been identified, according to police.

The victim was Anthony M. Bush Jr., 32, a Missouri resident, according to a Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman. His family has been notified.

Two persons of interest were arrested in the homicide case, according to a police spokesman.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at 11:45 a.m. March 4 in the 6100 block of Leavenworth Road, the spokesman said. As officers were checking the area they located a vehicle stopped at 63rd and Parallel Parkway with two persons inside.

The passenger was dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Major Case Unit, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Cold temperatures make a chilly Thursday morning, before warmup Friday

It was 14 degrees at 8 a.m. Thursday, with a wind chill of 4, but starting tomorrow, there will be much warmer weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures may even top 60 in the middle of next week.

Today’s high will be near 30, and Friday’s high will be near 51, according to the weather service. Winds will be 13 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph, the weather service said.

The weekend warmup will continue on Saturday, when there will be sunny skies with a high of 58, according to the weather service. The low Saturday night will be around 34.

Sunday, expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 57, the weather service said. Sunday night, the low will be 33.

Spring-like weather continues Monday, with sunny skies and a high near 59, according to the weather service.

Tuesday’s high breaks the 60-mark, with a predicted forecast of near 64. Wednesday’s weather will have a high near 66, the weather service said.
