Fairfax group to meet April 9

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Reddi Services, 603 Funston Road, Kansas City, Kan.

The meeting’s topic will be a Fairfax update, with these speakers: Steve Dailey, Fairfax Drainage District; Wayne Moody, UG public works; Brent Miles, NorthPoint Development; Jay Matlack, Wyandotte Economic Development; Maj. Solomon Young, Kansas City, Kan., Police Department; and Melissa Clark, Fairfax Industrial Association.

The cost of the luncheon is $15 for FIA members and $20 for nonmembers.

KDOT announces new schedules for lane, ramp closures on I-70 near I-635

Some new schedules for the lane and ramp closures on I-70 near I-635 have been announced by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Ramp closures began last night on northbound and southbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 ramps.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, the eastbound I-70 to Park Drive-Kaw Drive ramp will be closed to all traffic. Marked detours will be provided. The northbound and southbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 ramp closures will be in place, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. The eastbound I-70 to Park Drive-Kaw Drive ramp will reopen to traffic in July 2015.

At approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to two 11-foot lanes with no shoulders, and at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to TWO 11-foot lanes with no shoulders, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. There will be a 55 mph posted speed limit on I-70 through the work zone throughout the project duration.

In addition, the following lane closures will take place Saturday-Wednesday, March 28-April 1 for pavement marking work (Saturday daytime) and temporary concrete barrier placement (Monday-Tuesday nights overnight):

6 a.m. – 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28: Westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to two lanes.

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28: Westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to one lane.

Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28: Eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to one lane.

By 5 p.m. Saturday, March 28: Eastbound and westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to two open lanes each direction for the duration of the project.

7 p.m. Monday, March 30 – 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 31: Eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to one lane overnight.

7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 – 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 1: Westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to one lane overnight.

Victim of fatal car crash identified

The victim of a fatal accident on March 22 in the 5300 block of Neva Drive has been identified, a police spokesman said.

The victim was Joel Rosales-Cabral, 23, a Kansas City, Kan., resident, the spokesman said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit – Critical Collision Response Team.
