Sumner Academy falls to Washington

In a great showing, Jalen Taylor​ scored 15 points, but this was not enough as Sumner fell to Washington, 72-57.

With 15 points in the third quarter, Washington added to its existing lead.

Taylor led Sumner Academy’s offense, going 6-for-14 (43 percent) from the field while also sinking 75 percent (3-for-4) of free throws attempted.

Two other players also added 10 or more points for the Sabres. Saadique Perkins​ racked up 14 points and Derek Sykes​ had 12 points. Also chipping in for Sumner Academy were Shaun Rainey​ (9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Theron Sanders​ (4 points, 1 rebound) and De’Auan McClaine​ (3 points).

Sumner Academy Sabres varsity finished the game with 31 rebounds (15 offensive/16 defensive), four blocks and seven steals.

Registration open for KCKCC continuing education classes

There is still time to register for several courses through Kansas City Kansas Community College Continuing Education.

The first set of classes is an opportunity to learn about past leaders of Kansas and what they meant to history. Students will get the opportunity to learn from a first person reenactor and see history come to life.

All of these courses will be at 6 p.m. Thursdays in February in Room 3623 on the KCKCC main campus, 7250 State Ave. However, there is one exception. The first course covering Dr. James Naismith will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 5. Cost for one class is $20 or all four for $70.

· Feb. 5 – Dr. James Naismith

· Feb. 12 – Octave Chanute

· Feb. 19 – Wilbur Wright

· Feb. 26 – Dwight Eisenhower

In addition, KCKCC Continuing Education is offering dance classes. All classes are Tuesday nights beginning Feb. 3 in Room 10 at KCKCC’s West State location. Prime Time members get a $5 discount. Class options include:

· Chair Yoga. A unique yoga style that adapts yoga positions and poses through the use of a yoga chair. 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 top March 10. Cost: $45.

· Line Dancing. Learn a variety of line dances to increase the heart rate and fitness level. 6 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 to March 10. Cost: $45.

· Ballroom Dancing. Learn the basics of various ballroom dances including the waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba and swing. Couples only please. 7 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 to March 10. Cost: $60.
