Accident reported on I-635 past State Avenue

A pedestrian stepped from the outside shoulder of I-635 south of State Avenue into the path of a Cadillac and was struck about 8:49 a.m. Jan. 15.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the reason the pedestrian stepped into the pathway of the car was unknown.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 30-year-old Overland Park, Kan., woman, was not injured, according to the report. A passenger in the car, an 11-year-old girl, also was not injured, the report said.

Area gets a break from freezing temperatures today

The sun will shine and the high will be near 45 as Wyandotte County gets a break from freezing temperatures today.

The temperature was 21 degrees at 8 a.m. By noon, it should be 39 degrees, and by 3 p.m., 45 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Tonight, the low will be around 27, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 54. Friday night, the forecast is mostly clear with a low around 35, the weather service said.

On Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 51, according to the weather service.

Saturday night, the forecast is mostly clear with a low of 31.

Sunday, expect a high of 48 with sunny skies, according to the weather service. Sunday night, skies will be partly cloudy with a low of 30.

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the skies will be mostly sunny with a high of 49, the weather service said. Monday night, the low will be around 32.

Tuesday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 47. Tuesday night, the low will be around 28, the forecast stated.

A cold front will move into the area beginning Tuesday, and temperatures will fall back to seasonal averages on Wednesday, when the high will be near 39, according to the weather service.

Amber Alert canceled in Missouri

An Amber Alert was canceled Wednesday evening after a 1-month boy was found safe. The 1-month-old boy was abducted from Hartville, Mo., near the Springfield, Mo., area.

The Amber Alert for the 10-pound baby was issued by the Wright County Sheriff’s Department.
