T-Bones sign former Houston farmhand

The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that they have signed Adam Bailey to a contract for the 2015 season.

Bailey, who’ll be 27 when the season starts in May, is a 6-foot and 201-pound left-handed outfielder originally from Lincoln, Neb., but now lives in Overland Park, Kan.

In 2014 — his second season with Long Island of the Atlantic League, Bailey drove in 89 runs and batted .301 with 147 hits, including 23 doubles and 20 home runs.

The Houston Astros selected Bailey in the 23rd round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Nebraska. He reached triple-A Oklahoma City during the 2012 season. In five professional seasons, Bailey is a .274 hitter with 571 hits, 73 homers, 251 runs and 319 RBIs.

“Adam is a corner outfielder with some pop in his bat, who gives us that middle-of-the-lineup run producer,” said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.

In an unrelated transaction, the T-Bones placed infielder Darrell Hudson on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Members of the Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team took time away from their Thanksgiving break to help others have a festive Thanksgiving.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Lady Blue Devil softball team coached by Kacy Tillery helped serve Thanksgiving dinner to more than 125 tenants and guests from the Planters II high rise facility for elderly and disabled in Leavenworth.

“For the last 10 years, Amy and Janice Carpenter and Joyce Adams have cooked and prepared Thanksgiving dinner for the tenants and their families,” Tillery said. “For many, it’s the only Thanksgiving dinner they will receive and something our softball teams looks forward to and enjoys assisting.”

The menu included five turkeys, three 20-pound hams, 60 pounds of sweet potatoes, 80 pounds of mashed potatoes, buckets of gravy, nine pans of dressing, two roasters of green beans, 14 cans of cranberry sauce, 15 dozen rolls and 30 pies. “A huge success,” Tillery said. “Plenty of food with seconds for everyone.”

In addition to the annual Thanksgiving assistance, the Blue Devil softball team is making available a large assortment of Blue Devil short and long-sleeve T-shirts, hoodies, fleeces and caps. Descriptions and prices can be found on the KCKCC softball website (www.bluedevils.kckcc.edu/sports) or by contacting Kacy Tillery at [email protected].
