Temperatures a little lower today

Temperatures dropped slightly today as a cold front moved through the area last night, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high will be near 37, the weather service said.

A 30 percent chance of rain moves into the area on Wednesday, mainly after noon, the weather service said. Wednesday’s high will be near 38.

Wednesday night, there is a chance of drizzle, and the low will be around 33 degrees.

Thursday, the chance of drizzle continues with a high near 46. Thursday night, the low will be around 41, and the chance of drizzle continues.

The weekend looks warmer. The temperature will rise to 54 degrees on Friday, and on Friday night, the low will be 47.

On Saturday, the high will be near 59, with mostly cloudy skies. Saturday night’s low will be 50.

Sunday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain, and the high will be near 58. Sunday night, showers are likely with a low of 36.

For Monday, there is a 40 percent chance of rain, and the high will be about 40.

Thieves hit Ag Hall; steal historic items

The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, Bonner Springs, was hit by thieves who stole some one-of-a-kind and antique items, according to Bonner Springs police.

The burglary and theft took place on Sept. 10 and Nov. 5, and several museum-quality items were stolen during the two incidents, police said.

Among the items stolen from the Ag Hall, 630 N. 126th St., were at least five mantel clocks, antique toys, video equipment, an antique coin collection valued at $25,000, cast iron coin banks, agricultural models, cast iron kitchen tools and other museum items, police said.

The items are unique and of great historic and monetary value to the museum, according to police. Many may be easily identified.

The public’s help is needed to get as much information as possible about the missing items, according to police. There is no suspect information and the case is still under investigation.

The Bonner Springs Police Department is working with the Ag Hall to gain information. The police released pictures of some of the items.

Four candidates file for spring city, county elections

Four candidates have filed for offices in the spring city and county elections, according to Frances Sheppard, assistant Wyandotte County election commissioner.

The four who have filed as of Monday, Dec. 8, include Christal Watson, Unified Government Commission, 1st District at large; Ann Murguia, UG Commission, 3rd District, incumbent; Nancy Burns, register of deeds, incumbent; and Chuck Stites, Edwardsville city council member, at large.

The filing deadline is noon Jan. 27.

Positions that are on the ballot include UG commissioners in Districts 2, 3, 4 and 6, as well as at-large 1; register of deeds; BPU, at-large position 3 and in Districts 1 and 3; four positions each in the Kansas City, Kan., Turner, Piper and Bonner Springs school boards; four at-large positions on the Kansas City Kansas Community College Board of Trustees; three positions on the Fairfax Drainage District board of directors; three positions on the Kaw Valley Drainage District board of directors; three positions on the Wolcott Drainage District board of directors; mayor of Bonner Springs; Bonner Springs city council positions; three at-large Edwardsville City Council positions; and three at-large Lake Quivira City Council positions.
