The new mobile library – formerly called a bookmobile – is back in Kansas City, Kan.

A bookmobile was in operation formerly at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, but has not been in service in recent years.

A ribbon-cutting was held Wednesday for the new mobile library at Juniper Gardens in Kansas City, Kan. The mobile library is expected to start serving the public on Oct. 13.

The new mobile library has modern facilities, including a computer. The advantage is that it not only encourages people to read, but also brings the books to the people.

This new bookmobile is by far a lot better than ones that patrons may remember as a child, however it still has the same purpose and that is to encourage people to read.

“We are really excited about this new bookmobile. This could very well be the library of the future where you bring the books to the people. Right now we are seeing how the new bookmobile will do. As of now we do not have any more bookmobiles planned. We are waiting on community response; I’m really excited about it,” said Superintendent Cynthia Lane of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools.
