Logano wins checkered flag at Kansas after wild race

Joey Logano held off hard charging Kyle Larson to win the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway and become the first driver to lock his team into the next round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“Getting us to the next round – this is awesome,” Logano said. “We’ve got a real shot of winning the championship and I feel like we’re one of the teams to beat, so I’m having fun with it.”

After eight cautions throughout today’s race in Kansas City, Kan., many Chase contenders did not get the start in the Contender Round that they had hoped for including Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. who finished outside of the top 30.

Kyle Busch, who has struggled at Kansas Speedway over the past couple of years, finished third, which he considered a win.

“I didn’t get champagne or a trophy, but today was a win for us,” Busch said.

Martin Truex Jr. and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.

Clint Bowyer finished 18th and Jamie McMurray finished 25th.

Logano currently leads the Chase standings, Busch is second followed by Edwards, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Keselowski, Earnhardt Jr. and Johnson.
