Thursday’s events

6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, Village West Parade of Heroes, at Village West Parkway to Stadium Drive. The parade is located at the Village West area near The Legends Outlets. The parade is presented by the Village West Rotary Club.

5 and 7 p.m., Unified Government Commission to meet, Thursday, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.

8 p.m. Thursday, Kansas City Royals play at California Angels. Game 1 of the post-season American League division playoff is at Angels Stadium at Anaheim, Calif. The game will be seen and heard on TBS-TV and on ESPN radio.

Flood advisory in effect

A flood advisory is in effect for Wyandotte County until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

As much as an inch or an inch-and-a-half of rain has fallen over the area this morning, and runoff may cause minor flooding especially along small streams and near low-water crossings.

Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Kansas City, Kan., are in the area that may experience minor flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Downtown Kansas City, Mo., and surrounding areas also are under the flooding advisory.

Heavy rains move through county

Heavy rains were moving through parts of Wyandotte County about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, accompanied by lightning.

The storm was seen near Edwardsville at 8:41 a.m. and was moving northeast at 50 mph. The severe thunderstorm warning expires at 9 a.m.

Hail accompanied the storm, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service advised residents to take shelter.
