Sporting Kansas City releases Martinez

Sporting Kansas City announced that the club has released midfielder Alex Martinez and recalled midfielder Mikey Lopez from his loan to OKC Energy FC.

Sporting KC drafted Martinez with the No. 57 overall pick (third round) in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. The rookie midfielder started three regular season matches and scored his first professional goal in a 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fourth round win over NASL club Minnesota United FC.

Lopez returns to Kansas City after scoring his first goal in Energy FC’s 2-0 win over Sacramento Republic on Saturday. The 2013 MLS SuperDraft first round pick appeared in 14 matches while on loan with USL PRO affiliates Orlando City SC and Energy FC and tallied one goal and one assist.

Freeman graduates from basic training

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Eboni W. Freeman graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Freeman is the daughter of Lateshia Smith of Kansas City, Mo.
She is a 2011 graduate of Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, Kan.

Police seek killer of two young adults in KCK

Today police asked for the help of the community to find the killers of Lydell Irvin Jr. and Naythan Walton.

The killer is still at large, police said. The two victims, both in their 20s, were found June 19 in the 1200 block of Esplanade Avenue.

“We need the help of the community to find this killer,” said Capt. Steve Haulmark with the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department. “As of now the killer has not been found. We are currently under a mass investigation regarding the murder. Please contact the Tips Hotline, we need the support from the community.”

One of the victim’s parents also appealed to the community for help.

“Please contact the Tips Hotline regarding the killing of my son. It will give me closure regarding the death of my beloved son,” said Naomi Lydell, the victim’s mother.
