Skies start to clear today

Cloudy skies are starting to give way to partly sunny skies on Monday.

While clouds are clearing, there is still a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service. The slight chance of showers is predicted mainly after 2 p.m.

The high will be 82 degrees today, the weather service said. The temperature was 72 at 9 a.m., with humidity of 84 percent.

Tonight, there is a slight chance of showers before 7 p.m.

Tuesday, the forecast is mostly sunny with a high of 86.

On Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of storms in the forecast in the early morning hours and during the day. Thursday also will have a 30 percent chance of showers.

Police investigating death on 61st Terrace

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating a death in the 1600 block of North 61st Terrace.

Police were called to the area at 11:47 a.m. June 22 to check on an individual. They found a man lying dead in the grass, in a wooded area, a spokesman for the Police Department said.

The release of the victim’s name is pending positive identification and family notification.

Resident burned in fire on 4th Street

A resident of a home on North 4th Street received second- and third-degree burns to lower portions of both legs in a fire on Saturday.

According to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department, the fire was caused by a lawn mower and gas can stored next to the water heater.

The patient was transported nonemergency to the hospital.

The fire was reported at 5:40 p.m. June 21 at 1924 N. 4th, and crews arrived within 3 minutes. Crews saw fire showing from the side of the two-story wood-framed residence, according to the spokesman.

All the residents already had evacuated the building. The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes, the spokesman said.

The estimated loss to the building and contents was $15,000, according to the Fire Department. The pre-fire value of the home was $50,000.

The Red Cross was called to assist three adults and one child. There were no other injuries.
