Local dance studio wins several awards

Walters Dance Center of Kansas City, Kan., was well represented at the 2014 Show-Me Showdown.

In Pro-Am Divisions, Joann Luedke won 1st Place Overall in Gold Newcomer, Jane Buttenhoff won 1st Place Overall in Gold Intermediate, Lorrie McCurdy won 2nd Place Overall in Silver Novice, and Shelby Huddleston won 2nd Place Overall in Jr. Youth Newcomer, all dancing with their Pro, Mark Harris. Ed Fukunaga won 1st Place Overall in Silver, Gold and Open Novice, dancing with Shelley Judd! Charles Huddleston won 2nd Place Overall in Silver Novice, dancing with Mary Harris. Ted Haase and Russ received Gold scores in Pre-Newcomer with Pris Allen.

In the West Coast Swing Newcomer Jack and Jill, Jane Buttenhoff and Bryan Jenks won 1st Place, Lorrie McCurdy won 2nd Place, Ed Fukunaga won 4th Place, Joann Luedke won 5th Place, Charles Huddleston won 6th Place, and Shelby Huddleston won 8th Place.

James Netherton and Priscilla Allen won 2nd Place in Triple Two, Waltz and Two Step in Division II.

Mark Harris and Shelley Judd won 1st Place Overall in Pro-Pro.

Mark Harris was the Swing Coordinator and Head Swing Judge, Marta Elder taught workshops and was a Country Judge, Mary Harris was a Swing Judge, and Shelley Judd taught a workshop.

Airman graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Chase L. Brown graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Brown is the son of Charles Brown of Kansas City, Kan.
He is a 2012 graduate of Turner High School, Kansas City, Kan.

Former T-Bones pitching great getting married on mound

There’s more than just special Fourth of July fireworks planned at the T-Bones game on Friday, July 4 in Kansas City, Kan.

There’s also a very special event in the life of former T-Bones’ pitcher Jonathan Krysa. He will get married to his fiancée, Stacy Folsom, during the brief intermission between the game and fireworks.

Krysa has made more appearances than any other pitcher in T-Bones history. He’s chosen the pitching mount at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday night, July 4, as the place he will be married.

The T-Bones are scheduled to play at 7:05 that night against Sioux Falls with special holiday fireworks after the game. Krysa and his fiancée, Stacy Folsom, will exchange vows during the brief intermission between the game and the fireworks.

Krysa, a Kansas City area native who pitched collegiately at Rockhurst University, played five seasons for the T-Bones, 2003-2007. He holds several club career pitching records including appearances (90), games started (79), innings (547) and strikeouts (445), and he’s second in all-time wins (30). Krysa set the team record for strikeouts in a game in 2005, when he struck out 13 batters at Calgary. In 2012 he was selected for the T-Bones 10th Anniversary Team.
