Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

A 30 percent chance of rain today will increase overnight to 80 percent.

Today’s high will be near 77, and winds will begin to pick up. Winds of 11 to 21 mph from the southeast could gust to as high as 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The likelihood of rain and storms increases after 4 a.m. Thursday. Between a tenth and quarter of an inch, with higher amounts in storms, is possible.

Some strong thunderstorms are possible Thursday orning as a cold front sweeps through the area. They are likely to start before sunrise, and small hail and strong winds are possible.

Showers and thunderstorms may continue Thursday before 1 p.m. The high will be near 70. Winds may gust as high as 23 mph.

The weather clears Thursday night, and Friday’s forecast is sunny with a high near 77. Winds could gust as high as 23.

On Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday, the chance of showers and thunderstorms returns. A chance of rain also is in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. There is a potential for severe storms Sunday and Monday.

Man charged with murder in April 14 shooting death

Leopoldo Loya-Bustillos, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery today in connection with the April 14 shooting death of Oscar Sanchez.

The shooting occurred in the 6500 block of K-32 Highway in Kansas City, Kan., according to the district attorney’s office.  Sanchez was taken by a private vehicle to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The original police report indicated that the shooting took place near I-70 and I-635.

Loya-Bustillos, also known as Omar Loya Peinado, was also charged with one count of aggravated battery in connection with shooting a second person. Charges were filed this afternoon by Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman.

Loya-Bustillos is in custody in the Wyandotte County Jail. Bond was set at $1 million.

Murder charge filed in shooting death

Joshua Diaz, 20, of Kansas City, Kan., was charged today with first-degree murder in connection with the April 21 shooting death of Joaquin Patricio in the 1000 block of Minnesota.

Diaz also was charged with one count of aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with a shooting April 20 in the 1000 block of Cheyenne in Kansas City, Kan. The charges were filed by Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman.

Diaz is in custody in Jackson County, Mo., awaiting extradition. Bond was set at $500,000.

Gorman also charged a 15-year-old Edwardsville, Kan., girl with one count of obstructing apprehension or prosecution. She was charged in the juvenile department of the district court. She is in juvenile custody in Kansas City, Mo.
