KCKCC not offering summer NYSP camp this year

by Kelly Rogge

Kansas City Kansas Community College will not be offering National Youth Sports Program camp this summer because of extensive renovations going on around the main campus.

The renovations involve the exteriors of many campus buildings, the Field House floor and HVAC system and the softball field.

KCKCC has been holding NYSP for almost 20 years.

Federal funding for the program ended eight years ago, and the college along with Kansas City, Kansas School District’s Kid Zone and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation has funded the program since that time.

Campers pay a nominal fee of $25 for the camp.

Swimming, golf, soccer, basketball, volley ball and soft ball have been the mainstays of the program, but the renovations are needed and will proceed when the fewest number of credit students are on campus, a college spokesman said.

For more information, contact Rosemary Lischka, director of continuing education and community services at KCKCC, at 913-288-7246 or email [email protected].

Special meeting to be April 3 for KCK school board

A special meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, for the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education.

The meeting will be in the third floor board room of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th St.

According to a meeting notice, the board may take action on a human resources report and recommendations, and review board policy and directives for the school district’s police.

The board may go into a closed session to discuss negotiations, according to the meeting notice.
