Kansas City, Kansas, police have identified the victim of a homicide Sunday, Aug. 18, in the 400 block of North 64th Terrace.

The victim was Melvin R. James Jr., 25, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, according to a police spokesman.

Officers responded to the address at 12:58 a.m. Aug. 18 and found two males who had been shot, according to a police spokesman.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department responded to the location and confirmed that one of the victims was deceased. The other victim was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition, police stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Criminal Investigations Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Two Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet Monday night.

The Neighborhood and Community Development Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Aug. 19, followed by the Economic Development and Finance Committee. The meetings will be in the fifth floor meeting room, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

On the agenda for the Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting will be a report on second quarter investments; and a report on second quarter budget to actuals.

Land Bank policy changes are on the NCD Committee agenda.

Also on the agenda is a proposal to lift the hold on all Land Bank properties in the Northeast Master Plan area. There has been a hold on some Land Bank properties since April 11.

In other business, the Land Bank manager is recommending the sale of the Former Whittier School, 290 S. 10th, to KC Casas to rehab the building for apartments and retail business.

Proposed transfers from the Land Bank include:
2521 Hiawatha St. to Community Housing of Wyandotte County.
2523 Hiawatha St. to Community Housing of Wyanodtte County.
The two Hiawatha properties were part of the YouthBuild KCK Model Block Project for neighborhood beautification and affordable housing. CHWC will be the nonprofit builder for the project.

A proposed donation to the Land Bank is a vacant lot at 271 S. 12th st. from Robot Automation Integration Inc. The buyer purchased the property at the tax sale and was going to resell it, but the deal did not go through, according to the agenda, but stated he cannot take care of it. The property had back taxes of $5,078.05.

Also scheduled for the meeting is an update on the Land Bank rehab program.

The victim of a fatal accident on Sunday, Aug. 18, near 123rd and Marxen Road has been identified, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim was Jason Knetter, 45, a resident of Leavenworth County, according to police. Last Thursday was his 45th birthday.

Police stated he died of injuries sustained in the accident. He was driving a pickup truck northbound on 123rd Street when the vehicle left the road, coming to rest in a heavily wooded area, according to the police preliminary report.

He was the only person in the truck and there were no other vehicles involved in the accident, according to police. Police responded to the accident about 8 a.m. Sunday.
