Charges have been filed by District Attorney Mark Dupree against three persons in the murder of Jo’Shawn Garrett on Tuesday, Aug. 13, in Kansas City, Kansas.
First-degree murder charges were filed Monday against the three, Demetri D. Irvin, Dai’leon Kaine Henderson and Tobias Jebrel Womack, according to court documents.
The three defendants also face counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied building or vehicle, and aggravated battery.
In addition, one defendant, Irvin, faces a criminal possession of firearm charge in this case.
Police reported last week that Garrett, age 17, a Kansas City, Kansas, resident, was riding in the back seat of a vehicle that was eastbound on Parallel between 38th and 18th streets on the night of Aug. 13 when he was hit by bullets and died from his injuries.
The Kansas City Kansas Community College Wellness and Fitness Center is holding an open workout event for students, employees and all community members this month.
The KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center is holding the open workouts from now to Aug. 31. The center is located in the upper level of the Health Professions Building on the KCKCC Main Campus, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
There is no need to sign up or register. The center will be open during normal hours of operation the next two weeks for anyone to come in and try out the facility as well as any fitness classes that are available. The offer is only available to individuals 18 years and older.
The Wellness and Fitness Center hours are 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Group classes this fall include stretch, balance and body awareness, yoga, body sculpting and H-I-I-T (High Intensity Interval Training).

The heat index this afternoon could reach 103, the weather service said.
Periodic thunderstorm chances are expected mid-week for the area, according to the weather service. A cluster of storms this morning north of the Kansas City area are bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall to Nebraska and Iowa.
Additional storms may develop in Iowa and move into the area on Wednesday morning, the weather service said.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors, according to the weather service. Those outdoors should take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. In the event of heat stroke, call 911.
The Missouri and Kansas rivers in Wyandotte County are currently below flood stage, according to hydrology charts. The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes the Wyandotte County area, was in the action stage on Tuesday morning and falling. The Kansas River at 23rd Street was below flood stage nad below action stage.
